Ottawa – 2015 Urban Design Award Winner
We are proud and delighted to announce that Winston Square has won a City of Ottawa 2015 Urban Design Award of Merit in the ‘Public Places and Urban Spaces’ category.
Constructed on a closed road end, Winston Square is Ottawa’s newest urban square. It is created as an outdoor “living room” with green walls mimicking the rooflines of adjacent homes and sculptural outdoor furniture.
Still to come is a custom chandelier, designed by local artists Adrian Göllner and Joanna Swim, that celebrates the flora and fauna naturalized to the community of Westboro.
Winston Plaza was opened with fanfare and a speech from Mayor Watson on June 6th, 2015. Since then it has proved to be a popular gathering place and venue for activities such as dancing, musical activities, yoga, comedy nights, painting, general gatherings or simply eating lunch.
UPDATE – The Winston Square chandelier has arrived and was installed in early February 2017.
